Sea Sick
WTF? Osama Bin Laden’s body is already out of reach? “Buried at sea.” Sounds rather peaceful, dignified, and Mafia-like (did anyone put his feet in cement blocks per chance?).
I want to believe that Bin Laden’s bad seed is done. I’m not inclined to think that a ruse has been in play to send Bin Laden’s body away where no DNA can be challenged or proof of a body at all can be found based on devious purposes by the USA. However, the debate begins by political/government skeptics and basic cynics re: whether Bin Laden is actually dead, or has been so for several years.
I believe in honoring birth and death rituals/traditions. If a religion requires immediate burial, then so be it. In this particular situation, however, getting rid of the body within hours of announcing the death of such a terrorist icon as Bin Laden, does more to fan the flames of a virtual floating funeral pyre than not.
As I write, a press conference is underway with John Brennan, White House Advisor on Homeland Security, explaining the above in the best vague language possible. The burial decision was done in an “appropriate” way. The “appropriate” Islamic advisors were involved in the decision.
Okayyyyyy. I realize it is a very delicate subject, event. Not everything can be disclosed. Had Bin Laden’s body been buried, what would that have entailed? A place for his worshippers to flock in sorrow? Mass riots? Grave robbers? It would have been a difficult piece of rugged terrain to climb.
Best to send Bin Laden’s remains to the sea. It’s already polluted.
