On the Slow-Fast Track

It is a mere five days into August. How could July move so slow and August so fast - thus far? In discussion with friends, everyone expressed dismay at the slug-like pace of last month. It wasn't because there were five Sundays in the month that created the sense of walking through a haze of slow-motion special effects as if each day was 48 hours.

Were you not having fun last month if you agree with the above? You know how it goes, "Time flies when you're having fun." I know I wasn't having "fun" but was packing in a years' worth of experiences that were challenging on every level. Twas a productive month, nonetheless.

The U.S. finally saw how deeply entrenched The Tea Party is in Washington DC; Mr. Obama was caught with his guard down having missed the gravity of what he and his fellow Democrats were facing in the House with regard to the debt ceiling issue, and now everyone in politics can temporarily put the past month behind them and begin the so-far empty chant of "Job creation." "We need to create jobs." "Jobs. Jobs. Jobs."

Great idea. But where are the jobs, guys?

Nice to talk about the subject, not so great when most people tune out the "Jobs" noise following nothing more than blathering blabber from both sides of the aisle.

Until something substantial occurs to change the landscape of the "creating jobs" rumble, it would seem that what is broken here in the USA continues to break elsewhere, which doesn't bode well for a full economic recovery.

On that uplifting note, below are several links to articles you may find interesting for today's weekend kick-off. And, just for the fluffy absurdity of it all, I've added a few links to mindless diversions.

You don't have to guess what this one's about: Wall Street Tanks

It's not just Greece that's having trouble: In Other Places

As if the Pentagon has no waste to trim: Pentagon Cuts

Want to lend your voice on U.S. politics? Something To Do

Frothy focus: Catwoman?

Cable companies: They Want Us To Do What?

That's it for today. It's time to be a hostess to my guests as well as flee my desk from the continuing saga of the Buzz Saws From Hell outside my part of the abode.

Have a great Friday!

  1. All I know is, Obama stood before the American people, and using his scare tactics, got what
he wanted in the way of the stimulus bill. He
bragged that it would go for all the "shovel
ready jobs" that were waiting for funding.
Well, most of that stimulus money that went
to the states was used to supplement teacher's
and auto worker's union retirements. Then The
Emperor sat and giggled, and said, "Well, those
shovel ready jobs weren't as shovel ready as we
thought they were." Now, he's saying when Congress comes back into session, he's going to
get serious about creating jobs. For two years, he said he was "focused like a laser," and "would not rest" until the jobs increased. Seems to me like he's been doing plenty of resting. He's spending MOST of his time campaigning now, trying to be the first candidate in history with a billion dollars to spend on his campaing. NEWS FLASH: He's going to need every damn penny of it.
