The Casting Ouch!

While most of the U.S. and others worldwide continue to press for the arrest of George Zimmerman, the "Neighborhood Watch Guy Gone Allegedly Racist" who shot the unarmed Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., I would like to make an arrest on the producers of two bio-type films on the schedule to begin filming in a few months.

My and Your Favourite Crackhead, Lindsay Low-Hand, will take her special kind of queasy sleazy acting skills and do an inevitable hatchet job of playing Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime's upcoming "Liz and Dick". First, anyone who ever knew anything about Miss Taylor knows how she hated being called "Liz". Therefore, from the start I think we know how the film will work out: not so well, I predict.

Second, and equally important, is WHY LOHAN to play the violet-eyed icon of beauty and brass? Puleeze! I've made past references to this Casting Disaster In The Making when most thought it was another false rumour to make Linds "relevant" again beyond her illegal-based infamy and ensuring that the Chateau Marmont maintains its position as The Hotel Party Spot In Hollywood.

Of all actresses, it makes absolutely NO sense to cast this person, with or without all of her problems. Where is the willingness to cast good actors in "important" roles? Or even take a risk on Someone New. But, in a scary attempt to be fair, the best I can say about the casting choice is, "We shall see how this all plays out, won't we?"

But now it's Steve Jobs turn to be crucified by what appears to be another Miscasting Of Potentially Harmful Magnitude: Ashton Kutcher will portray Mr. Jobs in another made-for-TV biopic. Yikes! Jobs was a multi-layered, complex character in Life who will now be played by one of the least emotionally complex actors in the biz.

I think Ashton can pull off the cockiness of Jobs and at the same time carry the "look" of the younger Jobs. Beyond that, WTF is this all about? Talk about a signal that the script may be lacking substance and the budget will go mainly into Kutcher's salary! Beyond one or two emotions, Kutcher's inability to act with any depth is an insult to Jobs' murky memory.

In fact, the news of the role came out yesterday, causing many to wonder if it was merely an April Fool's Day joke. Nope. It's real. I guess Ashton has a very good agent who knows where all of the bodies are buried.

I think it's time for Hollywood to begin drug-testing casting agents.

  1. I think every blue-blooded patriotic American Viet Nam era vet would rather see Lindsey in this role, than Hanoi Jane as Nancy Regan. JOHN

  2. Sorry, John, but Jane is actually a good casting choice. All of that other stuff was a LONG time ago. Thanks for posting - as always.

  3. Naturally, a good choice if you're a liberal. But back in the day, treason, and aiding and abetting the enemy, any of us who ever wore the uniform would probably agree that a firing squad was in order. John
